MANcubFIRST-TIME TOURING MACHINES

Sitting down with two of the four members of up-and-coming Calgary rock quartet, MANcub, it’s evident how excited they are about their upcoming tour that will take them from Calgary to Moosejaw to Montreal and back, including a stop at Toronto’s NXNE before they return in time for Sled Island.

“We’re going out to support our first tour,” says front man Trent Bullard. “Lorrie Matheson recorded our album and it really helped. Josh Ruckstahl did the artwork. I want to carry their business cards and hand them out because Calgary’s scene has been so supportive. At the drop of a hat they helped out.” Bullard chuckles when comparing this to the difficulties of booking your first tour. “Everything in Calgary went so well, I’m kinda scared to see what other cities are like.” On a less serious note, the band secured an outside source for tour advice. “We had a psychic reading done and she said it would be successful, but there would be a great loss.”

When queried as to what it could be, the two members look at each other before agreeing, “We really hope it’s not our van. We’re more excited about our van than we are about life itself.”

With the new EP having dropped on May 30 at Broken City, the tour following immediately afterwards and some sure-to-be-great tour tales upon their return, the three guys and one gal in MANcub will be certainly to be in fine form for their Sled Island performances.

Catch MANcub at Broken City (afternoon) and at Republik (evening) on June 22.
