NEW-GRASS FIRES UP A HELL OF A PARTY
Don’t miss out on Billboard Bluegrass chart-toppers Old Man Markley at this year’s Sled Island!
Together since 2007 and breaking out of L.A. scene in 2010, Old Man Markley have been stirring up trouble and selling out shows ever since. With a mix of bluegrass and punk comes a new style of music they like to call “new-grass,” which is the boot-stomping, lap-slapping good times of the country/bluegrass scene combined with the no-nonsense, stick-it-up-your-ass attitude of the punk scene. Together, we get a perfectly rowdy good time and, oddly enough, always end up running out of beer.
Recently signed to Fat Wreck Chords, OMM may be relatively young, especially compared to other bluegrass veterans, but they have acquired a loyal following. Fans of punk and country alike have kept screaming for more since their debut album, Guts and Teeth in 2011. Composed of seven members, they seem to have almost every traditional instrument on tap, from a fiddle, a banjo and even the washboard, which only adds to their likability. Being a fairly new band, they’ve also been quite busy, releasing their third album, Down Side Up, touring extensively, pitching in a track for the upcoming Tony Sly tribute CD and hitting up the festival circuit, including Sled Island. On the road, they’ve been touring with labelmates and punk veterans NOFX and Bad Religion. Indeed, such is the connection between OMM and NOFX that the venerable Fat Mike stepped in as producer for their latest, album.
You’re not going to want to miss this show and it’s at the Ship and Anchor (June 20) to boot! What a perfect venue for Old Man Markley and I’m sure you’ll be able to hear the party all the way down 17th Ave.
